Uno de los grandes avances que distintos países occidentales implementaron en su proceso de desarrollo social fue el de la redacción y aplicación de un texto jurídico y político destinado a convertirse en la ley máxima de un Estado. Estos textos forjaron lo que hoy es la separación de poderes y, su carácter constitutivo, formó la base misma de la democracia. España no estuvo al margen de estos movimientos sociales y fue en 1812 cuando vio la luz la Constitución de Cádiz conocida como la Pepa. Desde entonces España ha conocido varias constituciones que esta obra analiza mostrando con ello el proceso político, jurídico y social que España ha recorrido hasta llegar hasta la actual Constitución de 1978.
